San Diego—
First came spa week. Then restaurant week. Now comes San Diego hotel week."A big part of it is to bring the local market in as well as bring some of the southern California guests down to the hotel and get to know us a bit," said Craig Waterman with Se San Diego. "Especially being new, it is real important to us."
Trying to cash in on the successes of spa and restaurant weeks and hoping to capture those local residents looking to get away from it all, hotel operators are banking on staycations.
"As we all know, times have been tough and you know, we are looking...we're trying to as many hotels are," said Dana Carriss with Estancia La Jolla.
Hotel week is being coordinated by a private company working with many hotels associated with the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau. It begins on November 13th and runs through November 26th. More than 50 hotels throughout the county are taking part. Deals range from 15 to 50 percent off on room rates. One hotel is offering one night at 15 bucks, for a two night minimum. Some hotels are also offering food deals and more.
"We're offering a $25 discount in the spa as well as the restaurant," said Waterman.
The President and CEO of Convis said it is a great way for residents to see what their hometown hotels have to offer, at a discount. He said Estancia is a good example of a hotel most San Diegans don't know much about.
"It is a great destinatiaon and if you can stay at Estancia for 50% what the normal rate would be, why wouldn't you want to stay there."
