SAN DIEGO - Point Loma Nazarene University students are trading their warm beds for cardboard boxes to learn how the less fortunate live on two bucks a day.

Twenty-seven students set up camp in the middle of campus this week for the Two Buck Challenge. For three days, students are leaving the comfort of their own homes to sleep in card board boxes. The money raised will go to Vitamin Angels, a group that provides vitamin care to needy kids, and Hope International, an agency that funds loans for entrepreneurs in developing countries.

Senior Claire Henry says students will live on rice and beans and will have to boil their water.

"I think we will be okay. I am making sure everyone gets fed. I think that's my only fear," Henry said.

Nearly 3 billion people in the world live on $2 a day, Henry said. That's half of the world's population.

The project is making the students feel fortunate for resources they have, Henry said. They hope it will make others think twice before doing any unnecessary spending.
