SAN DIEGO -- Fresh from her Super Bowl appearance, pop legend Madonna released her world tour schedule Tuesday and has no plans on stopping in San Diego.

As San Diego continues the battle to replace Qualcomm Stadium and the Valley View Casino Center (formerly the San Diego Sports Arena), some people question whether a new sports facilities would attract major concert acts.

"A new stadium wouldn't affect the concert business," said event planner Steve Redfearn. "A new arena would."

Redfearn suggested the issue is money and pointed out that there are very few big arena-style concert events touring nationally.

National tours that do exist fit comfortably in the facilities that already exist in the county, including the Cricket Amphitheater, Viejas Arena, and other smaller venues.

"If they're doing an arena tour, it's hard for San Diego to get them," Redfearn said. "If they're doing an amphitheater tour, Cricket at 20,000 seats is just fine."

The closest venue to San Diego that Madonna will be performing in is Staples Center in Los Angeles in October.
