Home Invasion (July 4, 2009)
SAN DIEGO -
Two gunmen were in custody today in connection with a
home invasion robbery in Imperial Beach, in which a resident resisted and was
pistol whipped, and two other suspects were at large, a sheriff's detective
said.An
Jason Dean Wootton, 21, and Jason Tamba Ladrillono, 22, were allegedly among four men wearing black ski masks and armed with handguns and pepper spray who barged into the home of a man and woman in the 500 block of Elm Avenue in Imperial Beach around 3:30 p.m. Friday, said San Diego sheriff's Detective Gary Williams.
One of the suspects forced the woman to the floor and tied her hands behind her back with duct tape, he said. Two of the suspects attempted to force the man to the floor and tie his hands with duct tape, but he resisted, Williams said.
One of the suspects pepper-sprayed the man and threatened to kill him, the detective said. Another suspect struck him on top of his head with the butt of a revolver, causing his head to bleed. The suspects also took about $350 in cash from his wallet, Williams said.
The man escaped and told neighbors to call 911, Williams said.
The four suspects fled, and Wootton, who was on foot, was caught by deputies, the detective said.
The victims positively identified him during a curbside line-up.
During questioning, he allegedly said Ladrillono was involved, and he was arrested around 12:15 a.m. in south San Diego, Williams said.
Both men were booked into the San Diego Central Jail with no bail on suspicion of various crimes, including kidnapping, burglary, false imprisonment, conspiracy to commit crime and illegal use of teargas, according to jail records.
Wootton and Ladrillono are scheduled to make their first court appearances at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at South Division Court in Chula Vista.
Two other suspected remained at large, Williams said.
The San Diego Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with any information about the home invasion to call Williams at (619) 498-2400.
