CARDIFF BY THE SEA, Calif.—
After nearly a quarter century, two state park volunteers are retiring.Frank and June Nuttall have been volunteering at the campgrounds at San Elijo State Beach for the past 23 years.
"We saw this place and fell in love with it," Frank said. "But now it's time to spend some time with the family."
"We've had a good long run," June said. "I've had no regrets."
Despite the couple being longtime volunteers in the Cardiff area, they both were raised in England and then moved to Kelowna, British Columbia.
"A big mistake," laughed Frank. "For 23 years this has been home... more than Kelowna."
The Nuttalls volunteer six months at a time before going north of the border for the summer. Officials said they are the longest standing volunteers in California state park history.
"The main thing is to get away from the cold of Canada," Frank said.
Frank, 84, and June, 79, have been married for 63 years and said they have spent a total of two days apart during their marriage.
"We made one rule, never go to bed on an argument," June said. "We've enjoyed every moment of it."
