EL CAJON, Calif. - An ambulance exploded and burst into flame Thursday afternoon at an East County shopping center, officials said.
An electrical fire caused the several oxygen tanks to explode inside the ambulance parked at a Walmart at the Westfield Parkway Mall on Fletcher Parkway, El Cajon spokeswoman Monica Zech said. There was no one in the ambulance at the time.
Rescue crews quickly extinguished the blaze. El Cajon police blocked off the west entrance to the mall for about 30 minutes while the explosion was being investigated.
No one was reported injured.
The ambulance, which belconted to ER Ambulance service, was destroyed. Investigators said they did not believe the explosion was due to suspicious circumstances.
