MISSION VALLEY, Calif. -- A man who was killed by a truck while riding his bicycle on Friars Road was identified Sunday as Marberry Ben Acree, 60, of San Diego, the Medical Examiner's office said.
Acree was riding with another bicyclist east on Friars Road shortly before noon Saturday. He was killed when he tried to ride past the offramp from northbound Interstate 15 as it merges onto eastbound Friars Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and Officer Frank Cali of the San Diego Police Department.
Acree hit the side of the truck and was flung to the ground at 11:50 a.m., Cali said. The truck ran over him. Paramedics tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene about 12:12 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner's report.
Satellite photos indicate bicycle lane runs along Friars Road as the ramp merges across it into travel lanes. The medical report did not say if any citations have been issued, and traffic investigators were not available Sunday.
