An Alpine man who allegedly beat his girlfriend and set
her on fire was sentenced today to three years in prison for violating his
probation stemming from earlier domestic violence convictions.
Todd Andrew Wimler, 47, was put on probation in September 2008 for a felony assault against the same woman who, according to Judge Peter Deddeh, fought back and injured him.
``You were not deterred by a felony conviction,'' Deddeh said. Wimler's probation was revoked when he was ordered to stand trial on charges of attempted murder and mayhem, among others. Trial is set for Jan. 25 at the East County Courthouse.
Wimler allegedly beat and burned the woman on Dec. 6, 2008. He allegedly doused her legs with a flammable liquid and set her afire in his trailer off Japatul Road.
The woman suffered first- and second-degree burns, a ruptured spleen, and injuries to her face and respiratory tract, and Wimler was arrested when sheriff's deputies found him hiding in a ravine.
