Grandson, friend sought in connection with elderly woman's death
ALPINE, Calif. - Authorities are looking for the grandson of a woman killed in her Alpine mobile home as a person of interest in the case.

Brandon Allen Hayes was identified "early on in the investigation'' as someone detectives wanted to talk to regarding the death of Eunice Cothron, 73, whose body was discovered about 9 p.m. Saturday in her mobile home at 2400 Alpine Boulevard, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Roy Frank. Cothron died at the scene, and her injuries were consistent with a homicide, Frank said, although he would not reveal the nature of the injuries. An autopsy is pending.

Hayes might be traveling near the border with a companion, Jeffrey Carl Reed, according to Frank. He said Hayes did not live with his grandmother.

Neighbors told a San Diego television station that Cothron had taken out a restraining order against Hayes, who they said sold her car to drug dealers.

Hayes is white, 6 feet tall and 165 pounds with short blond hair, a trim beard and some skin sores. Reed is 5 feet 2 inches and 180 pounds with brown hair and facial acne.

Deputies asked anyone with information about their whereabouts to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
