OCEANSIDE, Calif. -
An Oceanside entrepreneur hopes to minimize global plastic waste with her new invention: a filtered sports water bottle.
We are told to drink 8 glasses of water a day, but many of us prefer to pass on tap water and drink from a bottle. That upsets Faith Paulus, because she says as a nation we produce about $60 billion a year in plastic waste.
Paulus is making it her goal to minimize global plastic waste. She says as a nation we've tossed nearly 22 billion bottles into our landfills last year.
"It takes literally hundreds of thousands of years for each particle of plastic to dissolve," said Paulus.
So she created a solution for water drinkers on the go; a filtered sports bottle. It's called "Back to the Tap," and you can refill it up to 300 times from any source of water. Paulus says the filter removes 99% of chlorine and lead from tap water.
"While you're on the go you can consistently have fresh filtered water that tastes as good or better than any filtered water or any water bottle on the market," she said.
You can purchase the bottles at www.backtothetap.com.They range from $17-$22, and refillable filters are 2 for $25.
Paulus says her system will save consumers about $100 a month.
