Park View Little League (August 16, 2009)
SAN BERNARDINO -
The Park View Little League All-Stars from Chula Vista beat Lakeside Little League of Northern California in the Western Regional Finals. The battle of the west coast began at 5 p.m. Sunday in San Bernardino, California and ended just before 8 p.m. with the PVLL taking the win 11-4.
The team continued its streak of hot power hitting, with most of its runs coming off home runs.
Park View got off to a fast start in the first inning, with Alex Rios hitting a leadoff line drive over the right field fence, and Kiko Garcia followed later with a 2-run blast.
Lakeside tied the game 3-3, but in the later innings, Park View pulled away, helped by four walks in a row and then several more homers.
Lakeview got a homer of its own, but it was not enough, as Chula Vista took the regional title 11-4.
The All-stars are headed to Williamsport, Pennsylvania later in the week to compete in the Little League World Series.
Eight other San Diego County teams have reached the Little League World Series, most recently the Rancho Buena Vista All-Stars in 2005.
