LT and Me - Tomlinson's mom writes about raising a running back

SAN DIEGO - If you've ever wondered how Chargers running back Ladainian Tomlinson became the best running back in team history, there's one way to find out: read "LT and Me" ($24.95 Tyndale House Publishers), a book just released today and written by LT's mom Loreane.

"It's an inspiring book," said Loreane. "It's realizing a dream that is within your child and just cultivating that. And basically for parents not to live their life through their kids and push what they want."

Loreane raised her son to become the ultimate professional, on and off the field. She supported him every step of the way - from youth football, to high school, to TCU and eventually to the NFL where he has set several NFL records.

Loreane says the secret is to "let them be what they have chosen to be."

Dozens of chargers fans took the opportunity to buy the book at the Mission Valley Borders bookstore when it hit the shelves today. They also had the chance to get the book signed by both LT's. Now, they can't wait to learn more about their favorite running back.

"I think it's really great," said Sophia Lin who drove down from Los Angeles just to get a book signed by LT. "We get to see his life and his childhood and how he grew up to who he is now so I think it's pretty awesome that we can read more about him."

Marilen Tran, a teacher at High Tech Middle School agreed. "For me as a teacher, it's important to have a good relationship with your Mom and I think this is a good way to show especially LT being a role model to the younger generation," Tran said.

LT and Me has stories about LT from the time he was born. I asked LaDainian what his favorite story was in this book. He thought for a few moments and then said, "The part where she was moving away and me staying in Waco. How she felt at that time that I was becoming a man."

What a man he became.
