SAN DIEGO - A San Diego Marine was arrested Tuesday in San Bernardino County hours after police found his wife's body in the couple's apartment near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, police said.

San Diego homicide investigators went to the Legacy Apartments on Hillary Drive after receiving a call from a friend of Lance Cpl. Patrick Thomas Poteat, homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney said. The caller said Poteat had asked him to tell police to go to his apartment. When they arrived, they found the body of Poteat's 18-year-old wife, Rooney said.

Investigators received information that Poteat, a 21-year-old Marine stationed at MCAS Miramar, was in the Yucca Valley area near the 29 Palms Marine base, so they contacted Yucca Valley police. An off-duty officer spotted the Marine's car driving in the area, pulled it over and arrested Poteat without incident, Rooney said.
