SAN DIEGO -- A 66-year-old woman was in custody Monday accused of killing her adult son in a house in East County, police said.

Josephine Mary Ring called 911 shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday and said she had shot her son in the 2200 block of Tina Street, according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos.

Deputies arrived at the home in the unincorporated Granite Hills neighborhood south of El Cajon and found 48-year-old Vincent John Bonfiglio lying on the floor, Brugos said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Ring was taken into custody, according to the lieutenant. The circumstance of the shooting, including whether it may have been accidental, were not immediately clear, the lieutenant said.

As of Monday evening, Ring had not been booked on any charge, a jail clerk said.
