As unemployment numbers hover around 10% in the County, many San Diegans used this labor day to find work.

At Better Buzz Coffee in Pacific Beach, manager Jennifer Garden and her baristas are spending Labor Day making espresso drinks for San Diegans looking for a caffeine fix.

" I don't mind working on Labor Day, it's definitely different than a normal Monday for us. It hasn't been our normal traffic, but we've been keeping steady," said Garden.

Jennifer says she doesn't mind working on Labor Day. After all, 10% of San Diegans are still without a job. Jennifer considers herself lucky.

"So lucky to have a job. So so lucky. And I love my job. We have a great time here. Very fortunate to have this job, not only this job, but to have a job," she said.

And while some are 'lucky' in having jobs, others are looking for a lucky break.

"Unfortunately, the huge media company that I worked for, they killed the magazine, and laid me off," said job seeker D. Brian Smith.

"I mean as far as having a day off, I've had plenty, I want to work," said job seeker Lisa Wires.

Lisa is just one many who spent Labor Day working...to find work, at a Pink Slip Mixer at the Solamar Hotel in Downtown. As a former recruiter, Lisa was laid off from a mortgage bank about a year ago. She remains optimistic, and is looking to get recruited herself.

"I've been seeing openings online that more fit the description for what I'm looking for, that I haven't seen in a long time," said Wires.

Lisa is just one of many who decided to skip the beach and instead double check their resumes, and network to possible recruiters.

"There is a group of San Diegans out there who are wondering what they're going to do with their careers in the future. They're looking for a job right now," said John Walker, host of Pink Slip Mixers.
