SAN DIEGO—
Since the announcement of Prince William's engagement to longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton some San Diego businesses have been buzzing."I'm a big royalist," said Selina Stockley, who runs Shakespeare's Corner Shoppe in Midtown. "I love the royal family. I don't care what anybody says. They're huge for the country."
Born and raised in south London, Stockley said her business has people guessing on when the newest collectibles will hit the shelves. Inside the store, the Union Jack is well represented, everything from key chains to undergarments.
"People come in for pieces all of the time," she said. "I've only just sold out of William's 21st birthday plates and some of the Diana's stuff."
Stockley said as the wedding gets closer, she expects to have commemorative plates, cups, and saucers signifying the occasion. Stockley said once they come in, they're going to sell fast.
"It's going to be as big as Diana's wedding," she said.
In terms of her opinion on whether who will be the next king, Stockley said even though Prince Charles is next in line, William will be the next king.
"I don't think Charles will take the throne personally," she said. "I think he will step aside and let his son go on. I think it's the right thing to do."
The news has also created buzz on the internet. Phyllis Cheung of Rancho Penasquitos, created an application called "My Wedding Concierge," which bundles wedding blogs throughout the internet. Cheung said it just released last week, but since the news of the engagement, the amount of people that downloaded the application has more than doubled.
"Any kind of detail that will be leaked and potentially seen by the bride, the bride's most likely going to incorporate that into her wedding," said Cheung.
