Seal problem solved with dog park?
San Diego City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner wants dogs and their owners to solve the seal problem at the children's pool in La Jolla. Instead of spending $700,000 for the sounds of barking dogs, Lightner wants to save cash and use the real thing.

During a seal safety meeting in La Jolla, residents say they are on board with the plan to make the area a dog park.

"The Children's Pool could be temporarily turned into dog beach and we could be down there with our dogs on leash, and if the seals disperse so be it. But it would not cost the city any money," explains Caroline Meade.

The court recently ruled the Children's Pool would open to the public, which has brought up concerns about the creatures and people coming in contact. The city planned to play recordings of dogs barking to force the seals back into the sea.

Police are urging residents and people who visit the area to stay away from the seals both in and out of the water.
