SAN DIEGO - Hundreds of local teachers and educators gathered Thursday on the USS Midway to educate themselves on ways to enhance their classroom experience.

Despite proposed layoffs, budget cuts, and increased class sizes teachers are making strides to educate themselves about how to do more with less.

"It's hard for us," said teacher Ellie Vandiver. "I feel education is in a slump, and we need to change that to meet the world that's changing."

Local businesses, non-profits, and other foundations are partnering together to get funding for classroom projects.

"That's what we need to do.  They want to help us and we want to help us," said Vandiver.

Author Steve Farber, author of "The Radical Leap Re-Energized", spoke to the crowd about leadership.

"It's so easy to get overwhelmed by challenges," said Farber.  "Asking kids what they want to learn is important."
