SAN DIEGO -
A 17-year-old boy who pleaded guilty to gross vehicle manslaughter while intoxicated in a crash that killed one teenager and seriously injured another was sentenced to probation Thursday and up to 547 days in a juvenile camp.
The teenager, who has been in custody since the crash on Oct. 4, was driving four of his Torrey Pines High School classmates from a party when he crashed the vehicle on a winding road in Rancho Santa Fe at about 1:45 a.m. Alex Capozza, 17, was thrown from the car and deid at the scene. He was the only person in the car not wearing a seat belt. Jamie Arnold was seriously injured.
Two other 17-year-old passengers in the car escaped serious injury.
A California Highway Patrol report said a combination of alcohol and speed contributed to the accident.
Deputy District Attorney Aimee McLeod said the driver's blood-alcohol content was measured at .10 percent about an hour after the crash.
