It is finals week at UCSD, and the pressures of end-of-quarter exams are taking a toll on students. This year, campus administrators are trying something new to help calm student nerves.

This is overall effort to promote health and wellness to our students.

To alleviate some of the stress, the campus put on a "Therapy Fluffies De-stress" event Tuesday. Forty therapy dogs participated in the four-hour program meant to help students deal with some of their anxieties. Maly, an 8- year-old German shepherd, was one of the dogs.

"Seeing her makes me happy," said one senior. "She guarantees (students) an 'A.'"

Sovanny Yun, a graduating senior, said the pressure of finals can get overwhelming at times, but petting and playing with the pooches has a calming effect on a lot of students.

"After studying for hours and hours, you want to forget about it all." Yun said. "It's so nice to see positive animals after. They distract you. It's perfect."

The dogs in the event have all been through therapy dog training and are used in senior and hospital programs around San Diego County.
