Troops will be armed with savings this Veterans Day.

The idea is to salute those who serve, and plenty of restaurants and other businesses are taking part in the mission.

The popula Little Italy pub The Waterfront is giving all veterans, half off their bill Wednesday.

"Its just a way to show appreciation to our troops and people that give back to our country," said Waterfront general manager Rocky Nichols.

Applebee's franchises are offering a free meal, and Outback Steakhouse will give away a free "bloomin' onion" appetizer to military guests.

Krispy Kreme donuts also plans to give away free donuts.

San Diego Seal tours are offering free rides to vets on Veterans Day. The San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park are offering free admission for active duty military. National Parks are granting free admission for everyone on the holiday.

"We invite all of our visitors to enjoy this fee-free day and take time out on this national holiday to remember our service men and women who are currently serving overseas in harms way," U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said.

Old Navy clothing is using a "drop and we'll give you 30," campaign for Veterans Day. Military personnel will get a 30 percent discount on purchases for the second week of November. Lowe's and Home Depot are giving a 10 percent discount.

"I think its outstanding," veteran Bud Zayak said.

Most businesses will ask for a military I.D. to verify eligibility.
