MONTEREY PARK (KTLA) -- A 41-year-old man accused of killing his pregnant wife has been charged with capital murder.
Hongxin Liu is charged with one count each of murder and murder of a human fetus with a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders.
Dispatchers received a call from firefighters Sunday morning reporting a person dead at a home on the 1000 block of Ynez Avenue.
When investigators arrived, they found 39-year-old Chenan Bao's body with suspicious marks on it.
She was three months pregnant, according to authorities.
Detectives say Bao was involved in a fight with her husband about 7 a.m. Sunday.
Neighbors said they overheard an argument inside the home that morning.
While detectives provide details about the killing, they are investigating it as a homicide.
"When the coroners office responded they indicated there were some indications that something maybe awry," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Det. Traci Gonzalez said.
"That means that at this point until the autopsy and cause of death is determined, the sheriffs homicide bureau will investigate it as a murder."
Chad Ricks, who's lived in the area for two years, said the neighborhood is quiet.
"They were very quiet people, they never spoke, never waved, they just got in their cars."
Liu's bail is set at $1 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
The couple has a 2-year-old daughter, who is currently in custody of the Department of Child and Family Services.
