1. The Five-Year Engagement

I don’t mind a comedy going for two hours but when a lot of it isn’t working, I start to wonder why they didn’t just cut 20 minutes off the thing. I often watch movies with Jason Segel wanting to punch his face. I’m not sure why.

  3. A Little Bit of Heaven

Kevin Bacon is that actor we all loved in Footloose and so many movies the game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” became part of pop culture.

  5. Looking for Lenny

When I worked in radio years ago, I had friends with bands always bugging me to play their music on the air. They didn’t realize the big system in place that has record labels dictating what songs radio stations can play, and all that other garbage that goes along with radio formats.

  7. Think Like a Man

I’m guessing the studio would’ve rather had Chris Rock as the narrator and group leader of a bunch of basketball buddies discussing their relationship issues. The studios would be wrong. Rock has always been an overrated comedian and Hart an underrated one. I used to love watching him on Colin Quinn’s show years ago, and he never disappoints; even in his one scene in 40 Year Old Virgin with Romany Malco, who has a nice role in this.

  9. 21 Jump Street

It’s not like I thought Jonah Hill would come off an Oscar nominated performance in Moneyball (it wasn’t deserved), and start doing serious roles. This is the perfect vehicle for him. He wrote, produced, and starred in this film that takes its name from the TV show, but is nothing like it. It’s just a wacky comedy in The Other Guys style (which only had a few laughs, too).

  11. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

I fell in love with Kristin Scott Thomas when I saw The English Patient in the theatres. She’s always fun in films but in this, but seemed to be the only one aware she was doing a comedy in this. Certainly director Lasse Hallstrom (Chocolat) wasn’t so sure; and Simon Beaufoy, who gave us Slumdog Millionaire, really just gave us a very funny movie title.

  13. Goon

As a kid in the ‘70s and early ‘80s, I’d go ice skating at the House of Ice in Mira Mesa. One day I saw a poster for an upcoming hockey game there. My brother and I went, and had a blast. Mostly because a guy with a name like “Oreo” would beat up people every game.

  15. American Reunion

I remember seeing the first American Pie back in 1999. It was an okay comedy. I was amazed when 30 seconds before doing the on-air review for this movie, the cameramen were telling me about how many of these films have been released (I believe a few were straight-to-video).

  19. Top 5 Christmas Comedies

When producers asked me to compile a list of the best holiday films, I didn’t think that would be very fun. Everybody has seen Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life a million times.

  21. Our Idiot Brother

Steve Coogan, who was so hysterical in The Trip earlier this year and always cracks me up, wasn’t given a lot to do in this movie. His biggest laugh came from the shocking view of him bending over while nude.
