In 1999, Samson left a position at the Morgan Stanley investment bank in New York to become Executive Vice President of the Expos. When Luria swapped his interest in the Expos for the Marlins, Samson came with him to South Florida. Sports Business Journal cited him as one of the "Forty Under 40" in 2003 and 2004. Born in Milwaukee, Samson was raised in New York City. He returned to his native state to earn a bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Wisconsin. He returned to New York for law school and received a Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is a member of the New York State Bar. Before segueing to baseball, Samson founded News Travels Fast, the first company to deliver The New York Times to Europe on a same-day basis. An avid athlete himself, Samson completed the grueling Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii in 2006, swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles then running a full 26-plus mile marathon in 15 hours, 36 minutes. He's also a movie buff and regularly offers his critiques of popular films on sports talk radio. Samson and his wife Cindi have three children, daughters Hannah and Kyra and a son Caleb.
